Breakfast this morning was scrambled eggs and ham with crusty rolls again.  Fresh strawberry and papaya juice to drink.  I (Susan) gave the devotional with Sam’s help in reading some of the scripture.  Right after breakfast we got ready and left for the main church building where we are doing some brick laying on the second floor today.  At 10:30 Judy and I left with our friendly taxi driver and went to the supermarket next to the town plaza to buy sandwich meat and chips for our lunch today.  I think we are going to be preparing our own lunches the remainder of the time we are in Pisco.  The electricity went out this morning just before breakfast so we are without power at both the hotel and at the church.   Judy & I went to two different markets that bordered on the plaza where we bought sandwich supplies, chips, soft drinks and cookies.  We were taken back to the hotel.  Since we had some time before the rest of the team arrived back for lunch it was nice to rest and read.

The team came back for lunch around 1 p.m.  They were able to work on 4 sections of walls and get from 5-6 rows of brick laid on each wall.  Not bad for three hours of work from inexperienced brick layers.

At 3 p.m. we were ready and headed back down to the site where we will show the Jesus Film tonight.  We walked around the neighborhood with Jose David and Pastor Luiz knocking on doors and inviting people to the show tonight.  Nearly the entire time we were there we had a following of young boys, ages 9-11, who were full of questions and who helped in knocking on doors, passing out flyers, and giving us lots of helpful advice and information.  Since we could speak a few words of Spanish they seemed to think we knew more than we really did so when we would say “no comprende” they would cup their hands around their mouths, speak really slowly and loudly, and then wait for us to answer!  Sorry, still “no comprende”.

Tonight’s supper was a thin fried beef steak.  It was a little chewy.  We also had a fried egg with it, our usual white rice and yummy fried bananas.  We left the hotel about 7 p.m. and went to the area where we had canvassed in the afternoon.  Pastor Luiz was already there, along with some of his church group.  The movie screen and projector was set up.  There were some of the neighborhood people milling around.  We were met by several of the young boys who helped us this afternoon.  They were excited to see us back and again tried to talk to us slowly and loudly.  But, still no comprende to most of what they were saying.   The church did not plan to show the entire Jesus Film.  This is a Catholic area.  They are familiar with the story of Jesus.  So, they showed a portion of the Magdalena video starting with the trial of Jesus thru the ascension.  Then the church youth put on a short drama followed by a very dynamic message by Pastor Freddie, preached over the very LOUD sound system.  I’m sure everybody in the community heard what he had to say, even if they didn’t come to the JF showing.   And, there were 4 people who left their names with Pastor Luiz as asking for follow-up --- three adults and one child.  Pastor Freddie and his wife, Rosa and their three children are church planters from the north of Peru.  They now live about one hour south of Pisco.  They started a church from nothing about 3 years ago and now have a church of about 45.  They came today just for this film showing.

We came back to the hotel about 9:30, a little cold and tired and ready to call it a night.  Time for more brick laying tomorrow.
