Breakfast this morning was ham/cheese omelet with crusty rolls and fresh papaya juice and pineapple juice. Our devotional was given by Judy and Paul Nantz. Judy and Paul are veteran Work and Witness people. They have taken and/or led 50 trips. They are from Oklahoma City. We heard this morning that last night after our team left the Jesus Film site that there were 11 more children/teens who prayed for salvation with the group still there from the Pisco church!
After breakfast we went back to the main Pisco church to work on brick laying. It isn’t very far from the hotel so some of us walked, with it taking about 15-20 minutes to get there. We started right in on mixing mortar and getting bricks up. At 10:30 Judy and I left in the taxi with our friendly taxi driver to the market on the plaza to buy food for today’s lunch, again buying items for sandwiches. We stopped at the hotel on our way back to pick up the left over items from yesterday and then on back to the church arriving just before noon so that we could get things ready to eat. The team was ready for a break by then also and enjoyed the time downstairs on the first floor where it was shady and cool. After lunch we finished up some more of the walls before calling it a day about 3 p.m. Yes, I know that doesn’t sound like a long work day but to inexperienced people out in the sun it is a long and tiring job to do. Just before we stopped for the day Jose David went to a little neighborhood store and bought ice cream bars for all of us. Oh so yummy!! Paul is a go-getter and wanted to keep going so he, Sam and Judy stayed about 45 minutes longer to finish up the rest of the mortar that was mixed before they came on back to the hotel.
Tonight will be a free night for us. We were supposed to go back to the church for another service but it seems that since Jose David is the District Superintendent he needs to hold the annual meeting for the Pisco church while he is here. Rather than have a service tonight with John preaching as we did on Tuesday and then holding the annual meeting afterwards he has decided to just have the annual meeting tonight. So the seven of us have a free night here at the hotel.
Supper was interesting. We were served plates piled high with fried rice. There wasn’t a lot of flavor to it but someone said…”Oh, this has shrimp in it”. Since I don’t like shrimp I started looking for the shrimp to make sure I took it out…just as I bit into something chewy..and saw something black and circular in my rice. Jose David said it had octopus in it. Then we finally realized that the whole thing was seafood….clams, shrimp, octopus…who knows what else. Took awhile to eat when you had to pick through it to dig out the yucky seafood. Did find out that I’m not the only one who doesn’t like fish or seafood. 4 of the 7 of us don’t!
After supper we had a rousing game of Uno until bedtime. Nice evening for relaxing.
