Breakfast was at 7 a.m. The cooks have adjusted their menus due to what they have noticed from having many Americans here so this morning we had cold cereal and toast. After a time for private devotions we started off our day at work. Our Costa Rica co-workers had already been working for awhile, apparently, because they already had some of the tall rebar in place in the holes and were in the process of securing it so it would stand tall for the forms to surround it. Again some of us started cleaning and painting steel while others worked with the rebar and cement. The majority of cement today went into the base of the column holes to help support the foundation of the columns.
Wonda and Sally are in charge of making sure the rest of the team has snacks and doing some of the laundry in the new laundry room. Towels and washcloths were done today. It was a treat at lunch when they brought up some delicious fudge they had made. Lunch was spaghetti and salad.
In the afternoon Wonda and Sally made a trip with Anne to the grocery store. They picked up some Caladryl type of lotion because we are all getting lots of biting gnat bumps on us. Wonda also picked up a bag of ice and some 2 liter bottles of soft drinks. What a treat for our afternoon break from the hot sun. Work was finished about 4 p.m. Deanna, Marcia & Gerry, and Kay Lynn tried to walk down the hill to the river but stopped before going very far because of the very thick vegetation they couldn’t get through. Getting off work early gave us plenty of time to shower and rest before supper.
Along the path leading up the hill to the dining hall are lots of trees and flowers. Most of what it there looks like either small banana trees and different types of palms. There are several flowering bushes also. Today we found a very small pineapple plant with a pineapple growing on it.
Supper, again, was delicious. We reviewed our schedule for the VBS we will be doing tomorrow after we finished eating. Then Pastor Johnny came to visit with us and give us the history of the church at La Finca. We had heard it when we were here before but this time he added more to it and also had a slide show to go along with it. It was inspiring. We were also shown a computer program with a conception of what is possible with this project/property. From a small church of 30 twelve years ago to over 300 now with property completely paid for and armies of volunteers coming to help build the church, we were shown what God can do when people listen and are obedient to His leading.
Time now for bed as it has been a busy day.
