Yesterday’s  rain finally stopped about 10 p.m.   Devotions are held on the patio outside our cabins at 8 p.m. and it was quite chilly for most of our team.  Jackets and blankets were common apparel for the evening.

Bedtime by 10 p.m. and up again around 5:30.  It was a beautiful morning…..a few clouds but no rain.  Breakfast was a rice, bean and vegetable dish covered with a fried egg.  Very tasty.   Today is a full day of work.  I (Susan) spent part of the morning cleaning up the rooms and patio…sweeping and mopping after all the mud from the rain.   Wonda joined the cook and went shopping for groceries for the week.  The rest of the team started working on the metal for the roof trusses.  We are preparing and painting all the metal for four 100 foot roof trusses that are to go on the building.  By noon several of the team were covered with specks and swipes of green paint.  The temperature is great.  There is a slight breeze and still no rain!   Lunch was rice, black beans, a squash like vegetable called chiyote and small beef patties.  It was really good.   We’ve had fresh fruit juices with each meal.   Today’s was made of cas.   This is a small pale green round fruit with a mushy pulpy inside.  Absolutely delicious.   All around the grounds of La Finca are fruit trees…..oranges, lemons, limes, bananas.  There is a very large avocado tree on the edge of the property but none have fallen yet on our side of the fence line!

After lunch we started back on preparing the metal.  Our team has worked well today but we are not pushing it.  We also want to have plenty of time to interact and visit with some of the church members who are helping out.  And, we are having fun.  Lots of laughing and teasing.  This is a great group.  Some of the local church men are working on cutting boards so that we can stain them later in the week.  The bunk beds in our rooms are old and metal with some of the springs breaking.  I have two thin mattresses on my bed and still feel like I am sleeping on a hammock!  The top mattress is wider than the bottom one so I have to be careful not to lay too close to the edge!   The boards being cut now are for new wooden bunks.   It still hasn’t rained here today but we can hear thunder occasionally and can see rain on the mountains around us.  We are very thankful for the good day.

Work gradually stopped around 3 as we finished up our projects for the day.  Then time to shower and visit before supper at 6:30.  There is no hot water at the cabins.  Cold showers might feel really good if it was quite hot here but with temps in the upper 70’s it a little frigid!   Quick showers!!  Our rooms are like being at church camp.  As long as you can tolerate the spiders, ants, wasps, flies, etc.  you would do fine.
